The rich biodiversity of Tulamben and the surrounding area makes for an excellent variety of dive sites. Of the 18 nearby dive sites, there are 2 shipwrecks, a wall, coral reefs as well as sandy slopes that are perfect for macro diving. The most famous dive site is, of course, the USAT Liberty wreck. The 120-meter WWII shipwreck sits in 5 to 30 metres of water and lies just 35 metres offshore in front at our resort. Though it was damaged beyond repair during WWII, it remained beached until the eruption of Mount Agung in 1963 when it slid into the water from the seismic activity.  This makes the Liberty wreck on of the most accessible and preserved wrecks from this era, a truly unique dive site that is a must visit for all levels of divers. Though it is an amazing location to explore during the day, we also highly recommend night diving on the wreck as you will have the opportunity to see big groupers hunting small fish, large moray eels swimming through the openings in the wreck, huge spanish dancers swimming into the blue, and large groups of Humphead Parrotfish, the worlds largest species of parrotfish that come out at night in families of 20 members or more.

While the USAT Liberty is the most widely known dive site in the area, Tulamben is also famous for macrodiving, so much so that we have earned the nickname "Balinese Lembeh" after Lembeh Straight. The micro life here calls expert photographers from around the world to identify new species and look for specific nudibranches, crabs or shrimps that they've always dreamed of seeing underwater.  If you want to take it one step further, you can participate in the international photo contests.
